History and Development of IBA
Founded in 1957 in Paris, the International Bodyguard Association (IBA) has since become a global leader in protection training. IBA has pioneered protection education in regions such as the Baltic and Balkan countries, European Union Security, South Africa, Afghanistan, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Mongolia. In 2004, IBA provided protection training to the police forces of Iraq and Cambodia, as well as the United Nations Security Unit.
In the following years, IBA delivered training to specialized security units, including the Royal Thai Navy SEAL units and the Royal Thai Army Special Forces. Additionally, IBA offered training for the SIA Close Protection License in the UK, producing the first graduates in this field. IBA continues to deliver BTEC Level 3 close protection courses in collaboration with the UK’s Security Industry Authority (SIA).
IBA provides top-level training for government, military, police, and civilian protection personnel and holds a respected position worldwide. In 2010, IBA also provided training to Turkey’s National Police Protection Units.

Instructors (Shield & Sword)
All IBA instructors hold the Certified International Bodyguard (CIBG) certificate issued by IBA. This certification is granted based on previous experience and expertise. New CIBG holders may attend the MONITEUR-level instructor course, and after two years of teaching experience, may proceed to the INSTRUCTEUR program. Instructor licenses must be renewed every two years. IBA’s highest-ranking instructors achieve the PROFESSEUR title after at least 10 years of experience. Additionally, IBA often invites retired state personnel as guest instructors in specialized courses such as explosives detection, surveillance, and counter-surveillance.
